The final report and executive summary of findings from the research undertaken as part of the Higher Education Academy’s ‘Developing and embedding inclusive policy and practice in higher education’ programme are now downloadable from the Academy’s website at: www.heacademy.ac.uk/embeddinginclusion.

The research explored the experiences of ten institutional teams as they developed and embedded an aspect of disability equality or widening participation across the 14 months of the programme. It aimed to capture the ‘journey travelled’ by the teams in managing and implementing institution-wide change so as to contribute to a greater understanding of the processes involved in developing and embedding inclusion within policy and practice. The full report includes case studies of the work undertaken by each team.

InCurriculum Steering Group member Heather Symonds, University of the Arts, is delivering a conference at the NADP Annual Conference on Tuesday 29 June 2010.

The workshop is titled “Identifying the Voice: Transposing oral assessment from accommodation to a mainstream offer”

The aim is to encourage participants to focus on the vehicle of orality as an offer for all students to engage in, rather than seek accommodated assessment. Within this workshop Heather will demonstrate the effectiveness of the model by facilitating the audience listening to a dissertation exemplar of a viva voce and discreet short pieces of oral assessment by students with the spLD, dyslexia . This will be followed by short DVDs of students presenting orally in a mainstream capacity.

Heather will provide material from academic affairs which evidences the feasibility of offering orality in lieu of writing. From primary (Rose Report ) to Higher Education this vehicle offers an exemplar of inclusion. The session offers discourse to support the objectives of accredited orality.
